Timing Agricultural & Forestry Community’s Training Needs

fccollab

Three proven, independent, training providers are pooling their skills to deliver training for farmers and foresters within the new Farming Connect application windows. The three businesses have forged a unique collaborative approach to provide training across Wales when farmers and foresters need it

MWMAC Ltd, PMR Ltd and Simply the Best Training Ltd are all Lantra Awards and City and Guilds NPTC providers. They have each been approved in their own right to deliver industry approved training and assessment within Wales and the UK.

They each deliver accredited training as part of the Farming Connect Lifelong Learning and Development programme and serve their local communities and clients well. The new Farming Connect application windows introduced prompted the three businesses to take a collaborative approach.

Julie Thomas, Director of Simply the Best Training, explains: “We need minimum numbers in order for courses to run, so it makes sense for us to work together to fill these spaces. This means the customer will get the required training as efficiently and conveniently as possible. The april window is open now, and PDP clinics available, so don’t delay, apply today. ”

An added incentive to this approach is the wealth of knowledge that each provider brings to the table. MWMAC Ltd is a forestry industry specialist, PMR Ltd is a technical agriculture specialist and Simply the Best Training is a specialist in leadership and management and business skills.

The approach also works geographically. PMR Ltd delivers throughout Pembrokeshire, Carmarthenshire, and Ceredigion, MWMAC Ltd throughout Powys, Ceredigion and NE Wales, and Simply the Best Training throughout the SE Wales local authorities and in NW Wales through networking with other training providers and assessment centres.

Neil Davies, General Manager of PMR Ltd, says: “Farmers generally prefer the autumn and winter months to train and to meet new legislative requirements, such as rodenticides. This is something we can now deliver as long as we can get the key message out to the industry that they need to act fast in the Farming Connect application windows in April and June.

“This is essential to get the funding in place for Autumn/Winter training. It’s no use waiting until the training is needed to get the application in.”

Similarly, Victoria Laurie, Business Manager of MWMAC Ltd, is urging foresters, in particular, to register for this Farming Connect programme, saying: “This is a new and exciting development for the Forestry and Woodland Industries within Wales and awareness needs to be raised within this sector.

“We are encouraging all Forestry Contractors and Forestry/Woodland owners to investigate their eligibility for Farming Connect and get in touch with us or their local FC Advisors to discuss their options.”

The transformational courses in business and management are generally one day courses and should appeal to the ‘administrator’ within the business, says Julie Thomas of Simply the Best Training. She is also an instructor for these disciplines.

She says: “Because of the close links we have with MWMAC and PMR we intend to produce a timetable for these transformational courses so that we share clients and venues which should result in outcomes valued by applicants, and the industry.

“The aim is to be responsive to their needs, such as being local, and in the more accessible autumn training period.”

Anne Hughes, Director of MWMAC Ltd, adds: “Our customers can be assured that we all continue to provide our courses locally, as before, but this collaboration will give us this added dimension of pan-Wales coverage, which will deliver the results the industry requires.

“Speak to your usual provider, PMR, MWMAC, STB, register with them, we will sort the logistics!”
