The use of Rodenticides as a control measure on farms has been looked at and it has been identified that the risk to other animals such as Predatory birds and mammals is too high. However outdoor use of rodenticides is often necessary as part of a properly managed rodent control strategy.

Consequently new “stewardship conditions “have appeared on labels of rodenticides, requiring those that purchase and use them have been on an approved Training course.

LEVEL 2 Award in Rodent Management

On Sept 1st  2022- rules changed.

Following changes to the Campaign for Responsible Rodenticide Use (CRRU) code of best practice, training is no longer acceptable evidence of competence for the purchase of professional rodenticide. People who wish to gain proof of competence will now need to pass a regulated qualification such as the

Lantra Awards Level 2 Award in Rodent Management.

This course is for people who undertake management of rodent species in relation to pest control, in domestic, agricultural and business settings. This provides the proof of competence require to purchase professional rodenticide.

How we intend to run this-

We will run the Lantra 1 day training course.

  • You’ll receive a certificate of attendance once it is completed.
  • We’ll guide you through the key legislation and safety issues.
  • You’ll learn about the biology and behaviour of rodents.
  • Sessions on storage and transportation, disposal and control programmes will also be run.
  • Following this training you will be prepared to undertake the Lantra Awards Level 2 Award in Rodent Management

At the end of the day, you will be able take the Level 2 Award qualification-

This assessment is a hard copy examination question paper- multiple choice questions. There will be 30 questions, you will need to achieve at least 24 out of 30 correct answers to pass. Upon completion you will receive an Ofqual accredited certificate.

As it is now a regulated qualification, it will be more expensive than the current training option-as there are 2 lots of registration- one for training , and one for the qualification.
